Gabbeh rugs come from the Qashqai and Luri nomads of Fars province in southern Iran, who weave them on simple looms from their own hand-spun wool. Instead of intricate medallions, a Gabbeh has a deep, open field of colour with a few playful motifs, often little trees, animals or figures, that tell a story from the weaver's life.
This 120 × 180 cm piece has the thick, springy pile Gabbehs are known for, so it feels warm underfoot on cold marble and tile floors. Its simple, modern look suits both traditional homes and contemporary apartments. Every Gabbeh is woven freehand, so this rug is completely one of a kind.
